It's scholarship time

PLANT CITY - Hard work in the academic and athletic realms literally paid off for several students at Durant and Plant City high schools, as they won $500 scholarships last week courtesy of Hillsborough County athletics.

Durant High's Kaitlin "Scotti" Snapp and Ruben Garcia, along with Plant City seniors Haylee Dietrich and Blair Butler, were among the recipients of the scholarships. Each year in a partnership with Chick-fil-A and Dick's Sporting Goods, the county's athletic department is able to present $27,000 total to student-athletes.

On May 5, the 25 county public schools (Steinbrenner and Strawberry Crest have no senior class) all had one boy's and girl's recipient of the awards. A banquet was held at Jefferson High School.
